In 400 words or less, create a scene in which a comatose individual
regains consciousness.

A comatose person might lay unresponsive for days, weeks, even years,
before regaining consciousness. And after their sudden awakening,
there’s usually a strong reaction among caretakers and the family of
this individual.

In your scene, find ways to reveal the future challenges for your
protagonist. After all, the newly awakened person has many things to
sort out. Time has wrought changes in once-familiar people, places,
and things.

In your critique, let the writer know if you found the scene
believable. Why or why not? Were you able to picture the
newly-awakened person’s confusion? Did the dialogue show you how
others felt about the new normal? Were you satisfied with the ending
or did it leave you motivated to read more?
