In 400 words or less, write the opening scene of someone coming back from
death or a near-death experience.

There are many ways someone might be considered to have returned from death.
In the horror genre, the dead could return as vampires, zombies, or ghosts.
Non-fiction accounts have told of the eerie experiences of those who were
pronounced clinically dead and yet returned to life with compelling stories
of their brief time in the hereafter.

You need not show the actual death, but be sure to show how any characters
in the scene react to this reanimation. You might also consider whether the
returning character might endure any ill-effects from the reversal of death.

Critique: Did you find the opening compelling? Would you want to read more?
Was there anything amiss that pulled you out of the scene? Was there any
plot development that especially stoked your interest?
